Peace Transit

Energy, War & Global Climate Change

Cycling Teams / Route / Schedule

The spinning of homespun cloth was a major component of Gandhi's non-violent campaign to win national and personal economic independence. The spinning of bicycle wheels, walking and public transit are major components of our independence and peace. (Download the high resolution version to print poster. This poster inspired the Peace Transit Tour.)
The Peace Transit Tour began in Louisville KY (3 November 2007) and is heading south to the Gulf of Mexico. The Tour will meander slowly (through the winter) along the Gulf eastward to the tip of Florida, turning northward up the Atlantic coast. By March 1 we want to leave Savannah GA, heading north to New York at a faster pace - we want to be on the west coast before winter of 2008. (We hope the war will be over by then, but our national oil dependencies will not.) Then, down the Pacific coast, across the southwest, to New Orleans, and back to Louisville. Wow!!!

The Route and Schedule are determined by where teams find overnight housing and the will of next team of cyclists ready to carry the baton for the next leg of the tour. The Peace Transit tour is moved by the spirit of others. We have been asked to split the Tour in the northeast with a branch moving across Canada. If that effort is successful, we will send a branch into Mexico also.
