The spinning of homespun cloth was a major component of Gandhi's non-violent campaign to win national and personal economic independence. The spinning of bicycle wheels, walking and public transit are major components of our independence and peace. (Download the high resolution version to print poster. The "Peace Transit" project, put together by a group of Louisville activists, is a tour of the nation by bike, where riders pass along a peace transit baton from one group of riders to the next. The movement is intended to spread the word of less fuel dependency, global warming and peace.

Mr. & Mrs. Jackie Green, bike shop & bike courier business owners in downtown Louisville, are a couple of the instigators of the Project. Jackie started the transit with a fifty mile ride from Louisville. Bruce Day and Dave Miley picked up the baton in Portland and delivered it to Hendersonville. Doug Depew, Tom Evans, Teresa Lewin, Ed Thomas, Phil Vickery, Andrew Getter, Dan Hensley, Gary Williams & Brett Dauer delivered it to Shelby Park in Nashville on Sat. 11/17/07 to Tom Grooms, Shannon Hornsby and Don Hensley, members of Walk/Bike Nashville.

The baton leaves Sat. 11/24 for Trace Haven in Duck River TN with Tom Grooms & Tony Belcher. You can join in or learn more by visiting PeaceTransit.
